MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT
May Message from the President
Spring is here and many of our “snowbirds” are leaving. We will miss you. Have safe travels.
Member response to the Theme of the Month for April was terrific. The theme was “something that begins with P”. We received over 50 photos from over a dozen different members. The results can be seen HERE on our website Gallery. Well done, club members!
Our April meeting was well-attended, despite the warm weather. We had two great presentations on post-production at our April meeting. Isabel Guerra Clark, a local award-winning photographer, shared and demonstrated several plug-ins that she uses to enhance her photos. A brief list can be found HERE. Al Ungar, Club Member, provided an interesting demonstration on how to create composite photos. His photo is showcased on the right. The theme for May was announced in our April meeting. It is “columns”. Let’s see if we can beat the number of entries for last month!
The pre-meeting gathering in April was small but fun. It is now officially called the “F-Stop”. Stop in, enjoy a beverage, and talk about what you’d like the club to be doing or questions you have about photography or cameras while you get better acquainted with members. It is also a good place and time to ask about cropping or resizing your photos to competition size. Look for your Vice President, Scott Hall, who will be sitting by the “F-Stop” sign somewhere in the Kiva Club central area before our monthly meeting.
We will announce the May theme at our next meeting on May 22. PLEASE NOTE: When you are submitting a theme photo for the website Gallery, please resize to the competition size specifications: 1080 pixels height and 1920 pixels width. This means no vertical size can exceed 1080 and no horizontal can exceed 1920. It does NOT mean that your photo must be exactly 1080 by 1920. I also suggest you use 100 dpi or less…probably 72 is ideal…for display on websites. This helps keep the file size smaller and the website flows more smoothly. If you are confused about how to size, check out more detailed instructions HERE. Shoot, size, and submit! Final comment: Submit your photos to tpc.contact21@gmail.com. Please use this email address.
We will also announce our summer theme at our May meeting. Stay tuned.
The Education/Program committee is working on next year’s themes and guests. If you have a topic you would like featured, please let us know. We will search for an expert to help. We are also eager to hear about locations that would make good field trips next year.
Spring and early summer are great times for fun photographs. Take your camera, enjoy the views, and if you see something that is “photo worthy”, take the shot. “Seasonal sensations” is always a great theme to keep in mind. Experiment and let your personal expression show. Be courageous, try new techniques (I’m just discovering ‘photo stacking’), and explore different perspectives.
The secret to taking better photos? Take more photos!
